The Greatest Love Story

Every little girl dreams about the day when her Prince Charming will come and whisk her away into a life full of romance, excitement, and deep satisfaction. Unfortunately, every little girl grows up and learns that love isn’t as easy as the fairy tales make it sound. There are a lot more women than there are Prince Charmings! Very few women experience the “happily ever after” romance that they always dreamed of. Because of this, the longing for true love remains.

What I want you to know is that God desires to fulfill that longing in your heart. You were created for a love story that is so much better than anything you could experience with a man – even Prince Charming. What you are about to read is no fairy tale – it’s real! The Bible is full of incredible true stories, but perhaps the greatest of them all is the story of God’s love for you.

Chapter 1: God’s Desire

God created you, loves you, and wants you to know Him in a personal way. He also desires for you to experience a life full of peace, joy, and lasting satisfaction – both now and even after you die.

The Bible says . . .

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, so that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

[Jesus said], “I have come than they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

Chapter 2: Our Resistance

Just because God desires for you to know Him and have abundant life, both now and for eternity, doesn’t mean that you do. In fact, most people never experience the love and satisfaction that God gives. This is because God has created us with a will and freedom of choice. In other words, God doesn’t force Himself on anyone. He wants a relationship with you, but you must respond to Him.

What makes responding to God so hard – even impossible without God’s help - is the fact that all human beings are born selfish. Rebellion against God started with Adam and Eve and continues with us. Whether we admit it or not, deep down we all want to do our own thing, to make our own rules. We don’t want anyone to tell us what to do. This desire and the behavior that stems from it is often referred to as sin. We naturally resist God’s love because we don’t want Him to be in charge of our lives. The consequences of this are devastating.

God is loving, but He is also holy, perfect, and just. Because of this, He can’t ignore our rebellion. In fact, He must punish those who fall short of His standard of perfection. The punishment for sin is death – eternal separation from God in a place called hell.

The Bible says . . .

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

Chapter 3: Our Attempts to Make Things Right

Many people desire to have a relationship with God. They want to bridge the huge gap that their own sin has created. They want to experience the true love that can only be found in a relationship with their Creator.

People do a lot to make things right with God. They try religion, thinking that going to church regularly will bridge the gap. They also try good works and morality, thinking that God will accept them as long as their good deeds outweigh their bad deeds.

Unfortunately, sin is so serious and so devastating that there is nothing we can do to fix it on our own. No amount of good deeds can make up for even one act of rebellion against God, since the standard is perfection. There is only one thing that can make things right between you and God.

The Bible says . . .

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” Ephesians 2:8, 9

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me.” John 14:6

Chapter 4: God’s Amazing Gift

Because God loves you, He made a way to deal with your sin. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to this earth with a purpose in mind – to pay the penalty of your sin so that you can enjoy a personal love relationship with God. Because the penalty of sin is death and separation from God, Jesus had to die a horrible and agonizing death on the cross. He also had to experience the horror of God the Father turning His back on Him. Jesus conquered death and sin forever when He died on the cross and was resurrected three days later.

The Bible says . . .

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” 1 Peter 3:18

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Jesus Christ.” 1 Timothy 2:5

Chapter 5: The Proposal

God is offering you a love relationship with Himself – a relationship that is deeply satisfying. This God who loves you so much is sovereign, all-knowing, all-powerful, all-wise, merciful, loving, gracious, and holy. He desires to fill every empty place in your life. He is the giver of good gifts, but the greatest thing He offers is a relationship with Himself. You receive all that God provides by accepting the gift of salvation offered through Jesus Christ.

The important question is this: How will you respond? Will you say “yes” or “no?” In order to have a relationship with God, you must admit your need for Jesus. (“I am a sinner.”) You must trust Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing that His death on the cross is the only means by which your sin can be forgiven. You don’t have to get everything straight in your life before receiving God’s gift of salvation, but you do have to be willing to stop doing things your way and start doing them God’s way. Making changes in your life is something God helps you do once you place your faith in Jesus Christ.

The Bible Says . . .

“That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved . . . Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:9, 13

“Yet to all who received [Jesus Christ], to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12

Chapter 6: A Brand New Life

If you desire to trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you need to communicate that to God through prayer. You can say whatever is on your heart. If you need some help, here is an example of what say:

Dear Lord Jesus,

I know that I am a sinner and need Your forgiveness. I believe that you died for my sins. I know I can’t do it on my own, but I am willing to turn from my sins and start doing things Your way. I want you to take over my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for loving and saving me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

If you sincerely asked Jesus Christ to save you from your sin and come into your life, you are now and will forever be a child of God. You have been re-born into God’s family by the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit who indwells every believer. You no longer have to fear death because you are guaranteed eternal life in Heaven. For the first time in your life you can experience true, unconditional, unfailing, everlasting love.

The Bible Says . . .

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” Romans 10:13

“He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:12-13

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38, 39
