I don’t ever think of myself as a Christian counselor because I have no formal training in that area. However, I am given opportunities on a regular basis to sit with women one-on-one and help them deal with their difficult circumstances, painful emotions, and/or sinful behavior. If you are active in women’s lives, I’m sure you are given many opportunities like this as well. Here are a couple of books that have helped make me a much better “counselor.”
Instruments in the Redeemers Hands, Paul David Tripp
In this book, Paul Tripp emphasizes that each member of the body of Christ is called to help other members in the process of becoming more like Christ. In other words, counseling is not merely a job for trained professionals. This book presents a refreshingly God-centered, biblical perspective on human behavior and counseling. I think every Christian should read this book!
When People are Big and God is Small, Edward T. Welch
This book addresses how to overcome peer pressure, codependency, and the fear of man. Whether you struggle with these issues or not, you will profit greatly from this book.
